Personal/Education/Career Positions
Jon grew up in Garner, NC, a wonderful community that afforded him the opportunity to explore, create and figure out just who in the heck God made him to be.  He did his undergraduate work at Appalachian State University where he obtained a BS in Political Science with a minor in Communication.  Jon also met the love of his life, the beautiful Melinda Lee Parks, while in school at App State.

Following graduation from ASU, Jon began his professional journey that took him to positions including:

  • Fundraising for John Edwards in his U.S. Senate campaign in North Carolina
  • Public Affairs officer for the North Carolina Department of Transportation
  • Chief Public Information Officer for the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles
  • Leader of the E-Government Office for Wake County Government
  • Leader/Digital Media Manager for the DM2 team with S&A Cherokee

During that time, Jon pursued and obtained a Master’s in Public Administration from N.C. State University in Raleigh.  He also began a long tenure of service with Appalachian State that led to positions as president of the ASU Alumni Association and member of the ASU Board of Visitors.  He also co-founded a grass-roots advocacy group called Appalachian Advocates to speak up in the legislative and political arena on behalf of the needs of Appalachian State.

Today, Jon is proud to call Raleigh home, where he lives with Melinda, his two children and their dog.  Jon is a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and is a member of the congregation at Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church.  And last, but certainly not least, Jon and his family are in the process of adopting two children from the Ukraine.  You can learn more about their adoption process at their family Web site called Journey Through the Parks.
